I support Dennis Kwok to stand for election as the Legislative Council member of the legal functional constituency. Having been in practice as both a solicitor and a barrister, Dennis knows exactly the problems faced by the legal profession. Not only is he a good lawyer, in the past years, Dennis has also demonstrated his dedication to enter into politics to serve the community and has made great contribution as a member of the Election Committee for the last 2 terms.

With CY Leung assuming the CE office and with the soon introduction of the political reform package for the 2017 CE Election and 2016 LegCo Election, the coming 4-year LegCo term is critical. The public has high expectation that our representative from the Legal Functional Constituency will be a vigilant defender and promoter of the Rule of Law and other Core Values, who will speak out fearlessly whenever these values are compromised and will strive for genuine Universal Suffrage. I have known Dennis Kwok for many years. From his track records and my personal knowledge of him, I believe he is undoubtedly one who can be trusted to meet this high expectation. By voting for him, I hope we can send a clear and loud message to the public that the Legal profession always put public interest first.
The coming term will be even more demanding than the last. We need dedication and stamina in standing up to encroachment on Hong Kong’s rights and freedoms; we need someone who is prepared to play a full politics role. Dennis and I have fought many a campaign together. I know that he is prepared to give what it takes and has the ability to do so. I support him.
Dennis is a founding member of the Steering Group of the Citizens’ Commission on Constitutional Development. We encourage community participation in pressing the Government to achieve genuine universal suffrage in 2017 and 2020. Democracy is the best guarantee of the rule of law, an accountable, transparent government and protection of our core values. We need Legislative Councillors who are prepared to speak their minds on these issues and to act as an effective check and balance against executive power. Dennis has a clear vision of what makes Hong Kong tick. He will serve Hong Kong well. Give him your vote.

It is common ground that for universal suffrage to be achieved, functional constituencies must go. We need young and energetic individuals with a demonstrated commitment to working on constitutional change to reach this goal. Dennis has already demonstrated that commitment. He has the youth and energy needed in the coming years to see the process through to its end. In his work both within and outside Civic Party, he has shown his desire to serve the public in political office. He has steadfast determination, maturity of understanding and the qualities which make him the best candidate for our Legislative Councillor.”

Dennis Kwok stands for Hong Kong’s core values – the rule of law, human rights, and making sure that “Two Systems” remains a reality. His concern for the environment and for education are also much needed. He is a worthy successor to Margaret Ng. I urge you to support him in the forthcoming election.

Dennis is a rare candidate in our profession who understands the needs and concerns of both branches of our profession. His track record clearly demonstrates his full commitment to upholding the Rule of Law and defending our other Core Values. He is young, energetic and dedicated, which qualities make him well positioned to meet the demanding expectations and challenges facing the Legislative Councillors in this ever changing political environment. If you want to elect one who will bring fresh air to the political scene and who will speak out fearlessly whenever our fundamental rights are at stake, Dennis is your choice.
I am offering my support for Dennis Kwok in his bid for the Legal Sector seat in LegCo because of his strong commitment to democracy, human rights and the movement to improve the environment in Hong Kong.
In 2006, shortly after we were elected as members of the Election Committee, Dennis invited me to be a founding member of the Professional Commons. I accepted and have made some small contributions to that group. I observed Dennis’s commitment to a number of issues: he was intensely involved in the committee working on constitutional development in Hong Kong and the committee on human rights issues. Dennis also made many contributions to the group working on environmental and air quality issues.
Later, it was my turn to approach Dennis to consider joining the Chinese Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group. Dennis accepted that invitation and later told me his reasons: he didn’t just want to comment about the terrible plight of human rights lawyers in China, but because he had the opportunity to offer concrete assistance.
Dennis is someone who is concerned about making Hong Kong a better place, not just for the near future, but for the next and following generations.
I support Dennis because I hope the representative of our profession can, without fear, speak up for the values that we treasure, vote for a brighter future of the generations to come and hold on to the end. I have decided to take that chance with Dennis.
I have known Dennis for nearly 10 years. He is someone who stands firm on the maintenance of Hong Kong’s freedoms and core values. The next Legislative Council will inevitably deal with many issues in which legislators’ commitment to these freedoms and values will be tested. It is easy to make promises about such commitment. But Dennis’ track record shows that at critical moments, when there would inevitably be powerful voices demanding an easy way out, we can trust him to stand up for Hong Kong. I therefore support Dennis, and urge all legal sector voters to do the same.
